The Traveling Classroom is an exceptional 4 or 5 week program designed for those with an adventurous spirit who are looking to explore both the Spanish language and the iconic locations that make Ecuador a unique travel destination.

The weekdays will be spent learning Spanish in a group setting, as well as participating in a number of interesting activities specific to each Ecuadorean region. The group will travel to each new destination on the weekends so that students can begin their traveling classroom adventure on Sundays. You will spend one week in each of the following four locations: Quito, the Amazon jungle OR Cuenca, Manta and Montañita.

Our unparalleled 4 – 5 week program provides the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn Spanish in four picturesque destinations across Ecuador while experiencing unique cultural activities  local Ecuadorian activities, indigenous experiences and incredible adventures unique to each location.

Quito Week


The first destination is the capital and historic centre of Ecuador. Included in this segment are trips to Mitad del Mundo (the ‘centre of the world’), a magnificent natural hot pool and biking through the stunning Cotopaxi National Park- the highest active volcano in the world.

✓ Ecuadorian cooking class
✓ Transfer to Cuenca, you will travel by bus for around 9 hours, or transfer to Amazon (not included if Quito is your last destination)

Cuenca Week


Following Quito, you have the option to either visit the UNESCO old historic colonial city Cuenca, or the Amazon. In Cuenca you can enjoy the abundance of art and museums based in the colonial buildings, including the ruins of Pumapungo. Also you have the opportunity to visit Ingapirca, the largest known Inca ruins in Ecuador.

✓ City tour of Cuenca
✓ A salsa class
✓ Visit to the stunning Central Bank Museum, the ruins of Pumapungo and the Inca Garden
✓ A traditional Ecuadorian cooking class
✓ Visit to the archeological site of Incapirca.
✓ If you feel like adding a bit more adventure, you can go to Baños for a day (not included in the program)
✓ Transfer to Manta by bus (not included if Cuenca is your last destination)

Amazon Week


Your second week can alternatively be spent on a thrilling trip into the Amazon jungle, full of activities including tubing down the Amazon river, raft-building, trekking, bird-watching and shamanism just to name a few!

✓ Tubing in the river
✓ Build your own raft and down the river
✓ Trekking on the island of birds (this is done every week)
✓ Indigenous community visit, blowgun and traditional chicha drink
✓ Shamanism
✓ Gold washing and artisanal fishing
✓ Visit Amazon animal rescue center
✓ Trekking in the jungle (Selva Viva reserve)
✓ Trekking in the jungle (forest GAIA)
✓ Optional with cost: butterfly farm, rafting
✓ Transfer by bus to Quito airport, fly to Manta — additional US$70 (not included if Quito is your last destination)

Manta Week


Next onto the seaside city of Manta. From here you can try a tandem paraglide, visit the home of the ‘Panama hat’ in Montecristi and visit Isla de Plata, also known as the ‘little Galapagos’ with whale watching available in season.

✓ Trip to Montecriste (cuna of “panama hats”)
✓ Paragliding in Crucita and visit to “tagua” handicraft shops (ivory nut)
✓ Isla de la Plata trip
✓ Salsa dance class
✓ Ecuadorian cooking class: traditional recipe from Ecuadorian cuisine
✓ Transportation to Montañita by bus (not included if Manta is your last destination)

Montañita Week


Your final stop is the small, funky surf town of Montañita, a popular beach destination for domestic and international tourists alike. Here you will enjoy daily surf lessons, a trip to a more remote beach and a cooking class.

The program starts in Quito and will end in Montañita. If this schedule can not work for you, let us know as it may be possible to change the order rotation. However, the usual schedule works best logistically.

✓ Optional: airport transfer from Guayaquil (US$90.00)
✓ Surf lessons
✓ Weekend day trip to a nearby surfing hotspot

✓ A latino dance class or yoga class
✓ Transfer to Quito by bus (not included if Montañita is you last destination)
